Money was very strong all week for Elite Elle as she opened at $3.80 and started at $2. Good ride by Newitt who got into a good position in the run and she was just too good for them. Going to see her in the Spring and interesting to see how far she can go. Grand Emperor looked to have good form through Prince Stratum in Adelaide and it held up well. Flamberge looked to have enough and King Krovanh was all over the place, he wouldn’t go straight.
Worth noting: Follow the Grand emperor form through his Adelaide run.
Race 3. 1200M LF Signs Handicap

Rue Maple started favourite again and it wasn’t good news for people that backed her. She never looked like winning as she got back with the big weight and did a great job to run second. Tariana was ridden out aggressively by Newitt and she just kept going. Was a query with her on the wet but she was able to get through it well. Marotta ran into third at big odds and Spurcific just did enough and ran fourth.
Worth noting: Not the most genuine this bunch.
Race 4. 2000M Leslie Short Hiskens
TURNITUP LUKE NOLEN 1st $2.80F
EXCEPTIONALLY(NZ) DEAN YENDALL 2nd $20
PADDY O’REILLY(NZ) GLEN BOSS 3rd $3.50
Turnitup broke through for another win and did it well. It was a great ride by Nolen who was able to ride the horse perfectly which is what he needs to win. He settled off of them and was asked for his effort approaching the turn. Once he fought off Lasngridge Street he kicked away and had enough up his sleeve to defeat exceptionally. Paddy O’Reilly was well backed but always looked a run short.
Worth noting: Paddy O’Reilly will be ready next time, back in suitable.
Race 5. 1200M Dominant Handicap

PIXIE EYES NICHOLAS HALL 3rd $41
Champagne Shisha took up the running and battled on OK to finish 5th. It was another good win by Plateletwho just has a bit of class on these. 1100 is her best trip but again she was able to just sit on the speed and produce enough of a kick to put them away. Gig keeps going pretty well and hit the line to finish second for Yendall. Roses In The Glen was disappointing, well beaten into 9th.
Worth noting: Even lot besides the winner.
Race 6. 1600M Don Abell Cup

COSMIC CAUSEWAY LUKE NOLEN 3rd $4.20EF
Forty Thirty was coming off of an impressive win at Sandown and backed it up with an impressive performance here. It all fell into place for him with the 51kg and a nice ride by young Wallace who was able to get out in the lead and cruise along at a good speed. Once they straightened it was pretty clear they were going to struggle to catch him and he kicked well. Ebony Rock had no weight either and probably could have won had different tactics been applied. Cosmic Causeway did well considering the weight he gave away to finish in third spot.
Worth noting: Even lot, the claims helped for the first two.
Race 7. 1600M Travis Harrison Cup
SUSSURO JAKE NOONAN 1st $5
ROCCIN JO JACOB RULE 2nd $18
THE LONG ROAD THOMAS SADLER 3rd $6.50
Manhattan Maid had a 1600 query and the apprentice ensured she had no hope of getting the trip. OrchardStreet had a good sit on them but was just unable to do her absolute best in the going. Really liked her fourth and she looks ready to win next time on a decent track. Good ride by Noonan on Sussuro who was able to sprint hard off of a solid tempo. She has been thereabouts of late but put it together here. Roccin Jo picked up second after racing up there and kicking well. The Long Road third and probably better suited over 1400.
Worth noting: Following Orchard Street very closely, looking for dead or better.
Race 8. 1200M Think Big Stud Handicap
HOTHAM HEIGHTS BRAD RAWILLER 1st $6.50
REBEL TRUCE STEVEN ARNOLD 2nd $9
WHATANEXCUSE NICHOLAS HALL 3rd $8
Excellent win by Hotham Heights who always looked well placed here. Run prior was excellent over 1000m and was back to pet distance here. Rawiller sat just in behind them and the horse had enough of a kick late to hold them off. Thought Oregon Spirit did well first up, just couldn’t get the split early but still ran into fourth. Will improve once he gets to a mile and hopefully can get a decent track. Jugahlation was a big drifter and ran accordingly. Jayconi led them up but just couldn’t hold them off. Wasn’t much between them here.
Worth noting: Oregon Spirit is the one here but we need to be patient, he needs a mile and a firm track.

Race 1
1st Grand Business Hugh Bowman
2nd Centrepet Chris Reith
3rd Knight Exemplar Peter Robl
It was the two-year-olds in the first, and Centrepet crossed them from the outside. The two main contenders in the market got nice runs, with Knight Exemplar one out one back and Grand Business 5th, three back on the fence. When they turned for home, Knight Examplar was out in the clear and possibly looked the one, but some great riding by Hugh Bowman on Grand Business got him through along the inside, and he raced slightly more genuinely in the run to the line to get the win. Raise The Level which was impressive last start, leading all the way, got back to last here and did nothing.

1st Australian Star Josh Adams
2nd Flying Zero Chad Schofield
3rd Fast And Sexy Peter Robl
Skip Town led Fast And Sexy in the second race, with The Owl getting a nice run in behind them. Hendricuswhich was in the market got trapped three deep the trip. They were not out to break any records in this. The order stayed the same until they straightened, where Flying Zero came with its run down the outside, and the winner, Australian Star came through the middle after a nice run in transit. Bello was back along the fence and did have some trouble getting clear in the straight, but I don’t think that cost it the race. Hendricus ran well after its wide run and should be followed.

We Betcha was slow out in the third event. Onecatstoomany led them, with Jester’s Girl outside of it andEmbark getting a nice run, third on the fence. In the straight, it seemed as if Onecatstoomany would hold them off, but Embark dug in for the fight and got there right on the line. Radar and First Look ran on reasonably well down the outside. The run of Urania Crown was reasonable after being stuck wide all the way.

1st Euryale Josh Parr

3rd Black Jag Chad Schofield
This time over the 1900m and Fastnet Prince and Havana Rey set a reasonable tempo in front. HurricaneHenny, the two-year-old got a nice run third on the fence, with the eventual winner, Euryale also getting a good run three back on the outside. Before the turn, Fastnet Prince was in all sorts and dropped out sharply. Nissilewhich had been travelling one out one back made its run three wide, which gave a good tag into the race to Euryale, which sprinted quickly for a good win. The run of Black Jag was very good here.

1st Al’s Gold Blake Spriggs

3rd Sindarin Corey Brown
Calvo led River Of Salvation in the fifth, with Let Them Have It pulling a bit in third due to the slow tempo. Fiscal had a nice run behind the leader on the fence. The eventual winner, Al’s Gold had stalked them midfield and sprinted well in the straight. Irish Dream, got a run through in middle to run second and Sindarin was the best of those that ran on, getting into third along the fence. Kim Divine also made good ground. This could be a trap race to follow form out of due to the slow pace.

1st Malavio Nathan Berry
2nd Famous Seamus Robyn Freeman-Key
3rd Ideal Position Greg Ryan
The Civic Stakes was the main event on the card, and Malavio was an impressive winner. He’s been missing the start of late, and did that to some degree here, but not as badly as previously. It’s last 9 runs have been over 1200m, and the step up to 1400m proved the key. He settled last, and powered over the top of them in the straight. There was plenty of pace from Brilliant Light and Hood. Before the turn, Tromso was three deep andFamous Seamus was four deep. Malavio was two lengths behind the second last horse, just smoking its pipe. He came away to win by over two lengths on the line. The run of Think Mink was good, but I have a feeling it is a non winner.

Race 7
1st Kirinata J Matthews
2nd Whitlam Peter Robl
3rd Earnest Ernest Corey Brown
Kirinata was ridden with intent to lead in the seventh race, and did that from Happy Finish and Black Routine. There was a gap in running back to Martin Place that headed up the rest of the field. A leader often gets home at Rosehill, and it turned out Kirinata was the one. Despite the attempts of Whitlam and Earnest Ernest to pick it up in the straight, he just kept running. I thought Martin Place and Happy Finish were good runs here as both were interfered with to some degree in the straight which may have dulled their finishing efforts. More Rocco ran on well, but was entitled to off the fast pace.

Race 8
1st Lethal Arrow Josh Parr
2nd Our Barney Sam Clipperton
3rd Peck Corey Brown
In the last, Our Barney was put under the whip out of the barriers to ensure a forward position. He ended up on the fence behind the leader, Lethal Arrow which crossed from out wide. I thought this was the ride of the day by far from Josh Parr on Lethal Arrow. He ran them along early to ensure he didn’t get pestered in the lead, got away with some cheaper sections in the middle part of the race, and then got on his bike again inside the 800m. In the straight, Our Barney came off his back and tried bravely to get past him but could not, and Peck came down the outside after giving them many lengths start before the bend. All credit to the winning horse and Jockey for a job well done, and another leader home to finish the day.
