With the AFL and NRL seasons over for another year, racing now takes centre stage for sports-loving Australians starting with Super Saturday at Randwick.
There are four Group 1’s and plenty of other great races at Royal Randwick tomorrow so let’s take a look at results at the track over the last five seasons for runners under $10.
Trainers
Waller was the standout performer while the big Waterhouse and Snowden stables were just slightly worse than average. Followers of the O’Shea stable have struggled at Randwick:
POT% Trainer
+1 C Waller
-6 D Payne
-12 G Waterhouse
-13 P Snowden
-33 J O’Shea
(POT% = Profit on Turnover)
Jockeys
Nash Rawiller’s Randwick results are simply sensational:
POT% Jockey
+14 N Rawiller
+1 J Cassidy
-4 T Berry
-5 G Schofield
-10 C Brown
-17 B Shinn
-22 H Bowman
-23 T Clark
-27 K McEvoy
Track condition
There was very little variance across different track conditions:
POT% Going
-10 Good
-11 Dead
-8 Slow
-12 Heavy
Track experience
Horses with experience at the track out-performed first-timers:
POT% Randwick starts
-13 0
-6 1+
Barriers
Unlike the majority of Australian tracks, punters betting on Randwick races tend to underestimate the difficulty of being drawn wide:
POT Barrier
-13 1-4
-2 5-8
-23 9+
Last start settling position
Randwick is yet another track where horses with a tendency to get back in their races end up being poor betting propositions:
POT Last start settling position
-5 1st to 6th
-12 7th or worse
A quick summary of Randwick:
- Champion trainer Chris Waller is under-estimated by the market, but the O’Shea stable struggles at the track
- Punters can follow Nash Rawiller with plenty of confidence
- Course experience is an advantage
- Be wary of runners drawn wide
- The ability to race forward of midfield is a positive
That was a fairly simplistic overview of the Randwick track and is not intended to be the foundation of your betting approach tomorrow, but rather as a starting point for further research. You’ll need a far more in-depth approach to form analysis if you’re serious about winning.
Good punting
