Race 1 Class 6 Plate 1800m
Not a race to get excited about. ZEVADA was reasonably impressive and has the breeding to get 3200m so it’s a possibility of being a contender in some of the better staying events down the track. It’s difficult to race at the Winter Carnival and turn up and be competitive during the spring so it will  be interesting to see what path Tony Noonan chooses moving forward.

Race 2 Myer Hcp Listed 1500m
Strong speed with moderate final 600m. The winner PENNACCHIO was very good indeed. It’s NZ record was outstanding prior to arriving here but mostly from racing on severely rain affected tracks. At it’s previous start was held up for a run against Wealth Princess and Jerezana at 1350m. The other Kiwi LA ETOILE was surprisingly handy to the leaders (completely against its usual pattern). It sprinted along the inside at the 200 mark and looked the winner, but PENNACCHIO outwide was dong better. ROCKDALE ran well considering having led for the most part and managing to hold on beaten 1.2 lengths. Dropping back from two recent Group races was the key to its perceived improvement. Both Kiwis were impressive! PENNACCHIO may move on to the Listed Glasshouse 1400m at the Sunshine Coast from here and should be followed.

Race 3 Dane Ripper Stakes 1400m Group 2
Strong speed and relatively fast final 600m. SET FOR FAME was sensational doing it at both ends in what will be a very good form race. It continues to impress. WEALTH PRINCESS gave away 5 lengths to the winner in the run and had to go wide through the turn. It sprinted quickly at the 250m and looked the possible winner but it’s run ended at the 100. ACQUIRED was first try at 1400m and surprisingly was handy to the lead. They may have found the key to it and it was only 4 lengths to WEALTH PRINCESS last time after being well back in the run. JEREZANA yet again proved why backmarkers are tough punting propositions.

Race 4 B.R.C.Sires Produce Stakes 1400m Group 2
PRESSDAY was way superior albeit the race was run to suit with just an even tempo and a slow last 600 favouring it’s usual pattern of racing on the pace. LEVI’S CHOICE whom we identified from its debut run at Hawkesbury a few runs ago was also very impressive finishing off well despite being wide throughout. SMOKIN’ JOEY demonstrated yet again why backmarkers are poor betting propositions finishing off well yet again and tempting punters to reinvest yet again. It’s profile makes it most dubious moving forward. Follow PRESSDAY from this race – it is as strong to the line, races on the speed and will get further.

Race 5 Daybreak Lover 1400m Listed 3yr olds
Clearly LATIN NEWS was superior to this lot, however Michael Cahill wasnt able to get a run through along the fence and then despite all attempts couldnt get a  crack at them. Most unfortunate occurrence for punters. Not so for Larry Cassidy on GIRL HUSSLER who tracked it all the way. It was able to get clear running and really found the line under vigorous riding. An immature looking filly who could be a serious Group contender if it is able to put on some size and strength. TIERQUALO was drawn way wide and its run had merit. Both it’s performances of late have had merit. TROMOSO went well enough franking a few Sydney horses particularly TITLE who clearly didn’t handle the Heavy track at Rosehill. LATIN NEWS is a serious horse who needs a more experienced Jockey and can be followed confidently. The time they ran was slightly quicker than Race 3 but was approximately 3 lengths inferior over the last 600.

Race 6 Eagle Farm Cup 2200m Group 2
TRIPLE HONOUR was thrown in here. We nominated it as a horse to follow after its last start 3rd. It did have a poor draw to contend with but Larry Cassidy produced a brilliant ride to have it handy and travelling. Where it can go from here is the question. RAFFAELLO back in the hands of it’s prior trainer produced again and NEWPORT had sufficient class to run OK. Not much future reference here.

Race 7, Queensland Oaks, Group 1 2400m
Not a strong Oaks by any standard. A Good tempo but a very slow last 600 gave Backmarkers every chance here and the New Zealand Filly MISS KEEPSAKE managed to come from near last at the turn and weave a passage through to nail MARHETA in the last few strides. MARHETA had sprinted well clear at the 300m and looked the winner and certainly it could be argued Zahra went for it too early. A forgettable affair, particularly with a view to the Derby.

Race 8 Q.T.C.Cup Listed 1300m
Moderate speed, moderate final 600m. Some very good runs here from horses who were inconvenienced from having drawn poorly. STRYKER was brilliant. It drew terribly for the third start in succession and was trapped wide throughout. GRACEFUL ANNA was similar having got shuffled back but it motored home and certainly can be Stradbroke place if it draws inside. CATAPULTED was good winning and the second placed BORDER REBEL was very game as well.It will be competitive in anything it contests but if its wet its better again!

I have always followed up on Ed’s video review recommendations and certainly its been a feast .Of the 4 recommended in the above article PRESSDAY,PENNACCHIO, BORDER REBEL all won at their next starts and LATIN NEWS was the unluckiest second you would ever wish to see.

    Great work as per usual.
